Scholarship Winners

Scholarship
Federated provides two scholarship programs each year. 

  1. The Federated/Basin scholarship is $1,000 awarded to the son or daughter of a Federated member. Basin is one of Federated’s wholesale power suppliers. The high school senior or college student with a year remaining must complete an application, essay and references. This winner for 2009 was Michael Sukalski, Fairmont. He will be attending South Dakota State University, Brookings, majoring in agricultural and biosystems engineering.
  2. Operation Round Up scholarships: Federated awarded seven $600 scholarships to sons/daughters of Federated members who are high school seniors. This is the 14th year of Operation Round Up Scholarships. The winners are:

District 1: Taylor Salzwedel, Lakefield, son of Dennis & Margaret;
District 2: Dastinee Vancura, Jackson, daughter of David & Dawn;
District 3: Alysse Varilek, Jackson, daughter of Lennie & Janet;
District 4: Jonathon Traetow, Sherburn, son of David & Judy;
District 5: Spencer Seibert, Fairmont, son of Paul & Norma;
District 6: Alyssa Sandberg, Fairmont, daughter of Dean & Ruth; and
At-Large District: Tyler Harder, Fairmont, son of Brad & Vonnie Cone

The scholarship application is available with the April 1 electric bills or April Connections newsletter.

Through Operation Round Up, a $600 scholarship is awarded to Minnesota West Community & Technical College in Jackson, MN. Preference for the scholarship award goes to a Jackson County or Martin County student in the lineworker’s program.
