Volunteers Touch Up Kilen Woods

Volunteers can touch up Kilen Woods State Park through local electric cooperative's GreenTouch program

(JACKSON) - Minnesota's Touchstone Energy Cooperatives, including Federated Rural Electric, Jackson, have joined together to spruce up our State Park system. The GreenTouch spring cleanup is set for Saturday, May 2. The general public, electric cooperative employees and customers throughout the state will work in various State Parks, volunteering their time to clean picnic shelters and restrooms, fix buildings, brush trails, pick up litter and more.

This marks the ninth year of a partnership between the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives and Minnesota State Parks. The sponsorship also gives the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources $40,000 each year to help fund the State Park Guide and Junior Park Naturalist program.

Locally, the general public along with Federated and customers are invited to Kilen Woods State Park, northeast of Lakefield, Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Federated will serve free hot dogs and chips to volunteers. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans also partners with Federated on this project.

Volunteers need to RSVP by noon May 1. Call or e-mail Federated at 847-3520, 728-8366, 1-800-321-3520 or email us. Ask for Maureen. Registering ensures that enough lunch is ordered for all volunteers. You don't need to be a Federated member to participate. GreenTouch volunteers receive free access to the park on May 2 and free work gloves.

Thirty Minnesota rural electric cooperatives serve over 1 million customers throughout the state. Touchstone Energy is a co-brand used by cooperatives all over the nation to market what local electric cooperatives stand for: Integrity, Accountability, Community, Involvement and Innovation. The state park sponsorship fits well with the Touchstone Energy commitment. Federated is a rural electric cooperative serving more than 5,000 members in Jackson and Martin Counties.
